If your grayscale PNG images are larger than GIFs, it's because you've created 32-bit grayscale images... which does squat on computer monitors where the RGB channels are limited to 8 bits, and therefore can't show more than 256 shades of gray.
what the others have said. PNG's should be smaller than jpgs for b&w pages. a 30pg chap, 1200px height, should be <10MB, probably ~5-8 depending on the art
as far as # of colors, i've only seen maybe half a dozen b&w pages in ~400 chapters that i've had to use more than 20 colors

Also, I think the author has sunk to a new low with nicchi-senpai, the whole butt-bicycle thing was too much for me. What happened to all the sweets man?!

Dude, that guy knows Kouta's name and he didn't mention (since kanau call him father). Probably he suspects that the guy is the husband or something o Nozomi (kanau's mon don';t know if the names are ok). He might be thinking about kanau's leaving and all. I hope it develops better since the 6 months kanau's mother gave her might be a way to finish the manga (i hope it does not happen). By all means, great chap, great scans, and cant wait to see next.
